The Fine Arts Programs at Schofield Middle School

  • Schofield Strings

Schofield offers a comprehensive strings program.  Typically, students are encouraged to begin strings in the 6th grade.  Once they begin, they are encouraged to continue in the program as each year of the program is designed to build upon the previous.

The Strings program presents several concerts throughout the year.  Often, the 6th graders (beginners) play a repertoire more appropriate for their level and the 7th and 8th graders usually perform together.  Their repertoire reflects that of a more advance performer.

Each year, our students are afforded the opportunity to participate in the Countywide Garcia String Festival.  This festival offers players of all levels an opportunity to perform with students of similar skill set from middle schools within the district.  For many students, this is a terrific opportunity for them to grow in their musicianship.

    Schofield Percussion Ensemble

This group is in its infancy stage. The ensemble will be composed of students from 6th – 8th grades.  Many come with no experience or previous skills in the area of percussion.  They all will receive the training necessary to participate as a viable member of this group.

Currently, this ensemble is not in the daily schedule of the school day. Therefore, they will rehearse after school. This group will be performing on everything from classical percussion instruments to buckets and garbage cans. You will not want to miss a concert from this entertaining group.

    Schofield Chorus

Unfortunately, this group could not be scheduled for the first semester. Efforts are being made to change this for the next semester.  In the past, this group met during the school day and it was a yearlong course.  Staying together for the duration of a year facilitated the singers to build upon previous learned skills.  Hopefully, this group will emerge in the schedule next semester.

Singers from all grades participated in singing a varied repertoire of music. Several concerts were presented throughout the year. The choirs were guests at several churches and community events. Although the singers rehearsed at different times during the school day, they combined as a mass choir for concerts. I’m looking forward to the re-emergence of this group!
