Dear Parents and Students,

My name is Mrs. Kennita Hairston, and I am the School Library/Media Specialist and Communications Liaison. My ultimate goal is to help students build essential literacy skills (reading, writing, and spelling) for career and college readiness. To help build these essential literacy skills, I encourage each student (and family member) to enjoy reading for leisure 20 minutes every day. Research shows that children and adults who independently read books, or are read aloud to for just 15-30 minutes every day can advance one grade level in a school year. Isn't that exciting? Listening to audio books in the car is one way to sneak in a few extra minutes of reading time for the entire family!
