• All 11th-grade students and students in their 3rd year of high school will have the option of taking either the ACT or SAT college entrance exam at no cost as part of state testing requirements. Students and their families must make a selection, sign the selection form, and return the form to the school (a digital form is available in the Parent Portal).  All tests will be administered during the school day and all Aiken County students are encouraged to participate in one of the assessments. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your school counselor or the school testing coordinator, Martha Messick.

On which test will I do better?

The ACT is designed to evaluate overall educational development whereas the SAT is designed to evaluate a student’s general thinking and problem-solving abilities. The ACT may include more grammar and punctuation, whereas the SAT includes more vocabulary. Both tests are approximately the same duration and neither test penalizes a test-taker for incorrect answers.

Each test has a somewhat different structure, so the very best way to determine which test is better suited for you is to take a practice test of each. That way you can receive an actual score and compare the results on both tests to make a determination regarding which is most appropriate for you.  You may also ask your counselor for help in determining the best test for you.
