BA Early Childhood Education M.Ed.in Elementary Reading

Ms. Catherine Baker

This is my 24th year as a public education teacher.  I have taught in three schools, two districts, and two states.  My first four years I taught at Greendale Elementary.  During my time there I taught 1st grade.  I then moved to Gulfport, MS where I taught 2nd grade at Central Elementary for 3 years.  When I moved back to Aiken, I accepted a job offer at Warrenville Elementary teaching 2nd grade.  I taught 2nd grade at Warrenville from 2005-2022.  I am now the librarian at Warrenville and am excited about my new role.  I am truly blessed to be able to teach at Warrenville.  It's like my second home and the people I work with in and out of the school are like my family.  I have been nominated for and served as Teacher of the Year for Warrenville two times in ten years.  I love my profession and strive to be the best teacher I can be to all of the students I teach.

I grew up going to Aiken County Public Schools.  I attended Laurens Street Elementary, Schofield Middle School, and South Aiken High School.  I went to college at USC-Aiken.  My degree is in Early Childhood Education.

Personally, I am the mother to two amazing children.  Ethan is 17, is going into 12th grade at Aiken High.  Addison is 14, and going into 9th grade at Aiken High.  We live in Aiken.  Our lives are busy with 2 dogs and on the go with both kids involved in soccer.   In my spare time (when I have some), I enjoy going to the gym, reading, traveling, relaxing on a beach looking at the ocean, and enjoying time with friends and family.

In August of 2020, I finished my Masters degree in the area of Reading Specialist.  I then decided to continue my education  by getting a Masters in Library and Information Science, which allows me to teach in the library.  I have finished all of my coursework and will be certified soon after I graduate in December.

I want to conclude with how much I love what I do.  I am extremely thankful that I am in a role where I can reach every student in the school and share my love of reading, research, problem-solving, and teamwork. Teaching is not a career that will make anyone monetarily rich, but one where the riches come from the "blood, sweat, and tears" that are put into enriching the lives of children~our future.
