Welcome to Greendale Elementary's Media page.  I am Konya Bing, the school's Media Specialist.  I have been teaching in Aiken County for 26 years with 21 of those years here at Greendale.  This is my 15th year as a Media Specialist. 

I am a proud product of the Aiken County Public School System.  I attended Greendale, North Augusta Elementary, Middle, and High.  I graduated from Silver Bluff High School.  I am elated to teach in the school where I first began my own education.

  • Discus – South Carolina’s Virtual Library is the “information place” for all South Carolinians. Discus, which stands for Digital Information for South Carolina Users, provides free access to an electronic library that’s available 24/7. The program objectives are fully outlined in the .

    Discus is a collection of subscription databases with an array of resources ranging from books and magazines to maps and videos. This collection of databases provides high-quality publications in an easy to navigate format for students and teachers alike. Discus allows students to safely search for up-to-date information without sifting through advertisements and non-educational results found in search engines such as Google. Among the is it prepares young students to find credible sources for later academic achievement. 

    The manages and administers Discus in cooperation with the state’s school, college, and public libraries. Discus is funded primarily by an appropriation from the  in collaboration with the . State funding covers most of the database subscription costs. Additional funding from the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) also supports Discus. These organizations make it possible to provide Discus resources to the public at no cost.

  • Reading aloud to children has been shown to improve reading, writing and communication skills, logical thinking and concentration, and general academic aptitude, as well as inspire a lifelong love of reading. Teachers use Storyline Online in their classrooms, and doctors and nurses play Storyline Online in children’s hospitals.

    Storyline Online is available 24 hours a day for children, parents, caregivers and educators worldwide. Each book includes supplemental curriculum developed by a credentialed elementary educator, aiming to strengthen comprehension and verbal and written skills for English-language learners.

    Storyline Online is a program of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation. The Foundation is a nonprofit organization that relies entirely on gifts, grants and donations to fund Storyline Online and produce all of its videos.
