Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Caroline Barker

I hold a bachelor’s degree in special education, a master’s in educational leadership, certification as a school principal, and certification as a behavioral analyst.

I have worked as an elementary teacher and middle school teacher. At the middle school level, I chaired the Exceptional Education Department and created a new team designed specially to meet the needs of students with disabilities. In 2000, I became a Student Support Specialist, responsible for individual behavior plans, student IEPs, 504s and served as the lead in designing the first pilot for the USF Positive Behavioral Support initiative in Indian River County, Florida. This pilot program reduced student discipline referrals by 64% in the first year of implementation and received Gold status. Because of the success of this pilot program, Indian River County adopted PBS in several schools.

In 2012, I was named Principal of Beachland Elementary. During my leadership, Beachland regained its grade A status and obtained the highest learning gains in Indian River County. In 2014 Mrs. Ann Scott, First Lady of Florida, visited Beachland to congratulate our team on our achievements. In April of that same year, I was invited by Mrs. Scott to attend a dinner at the Governor’s mansion honoring outstanding community leaders. In 2016, Governor Rick Scott personally congratulated me for achieving top 10% status on the Florida ELA learning gains and 5th grade Science.

I have been married to my husband Will for the past 21 years. Will is a native Floridan from Vero Beach. I had the pleasure of meeting Will on the fourth day after my move to Vero from Long Island. We have two children, Thomas and Lydia, and I can’t forget my favorite child, Lulu, my chihuahua mix that I rescued 7 years ago.

I am very happy to call Greendale my home. Together we are going to do amazing things for our students and our community!

Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Lydia Bon-Perez

I am very excited to begin the new school year as the Assistant Principal at Greendale Elementary School. I began my career as an educator in Miami-Dade County Public Schools in August 2000 as a 1st grade teacher. In the years that followed, I also taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grade. During the 2015-2016 school year, I became the ELL Coordinator at my school supporting students and teachers with best practices for English Language Learners. The following school year, I began my role as a Literacy Coach and Media Specialist. This role gave me the opportunity to foster a love of reading while sharing books with students in PK-5th grade and providing teachers with instructional support in both Reading and Math. In 2017, I graduated with a Master’s in Educational Leadership from American College of Education. Through the years, I have also enjoyed working with parents and community members to motivate and positively impact students.

I joined the Greendale Faculty in January 2021 as a third-grade teacher. I felt welcomed and right at home immediately. The students at Greendale inspired me from the start. I am looking forward to working with each of our students and families this school year.
