Team Awesome Wins 2021-22 County Academic Team Championship
The Schofield Middle School Academic Team finished the 2021-22 season with 9 wins and just 1 loss, earning SMS “Team Awesome” the best record of all middle school academic teams in Aiken County and recognition as the 2021-22 Aiken County Middle School Academic Team Champions.
“This is a very special honor for Schofield Middle School and a proud moment for me as well,” stated SMS Principal Dr. Scott Floyd. “These students have worked very hard and given their all during these academic competitions. They have also been coached well by Mr. Knowles, and I could not be prouder of them for how they have represented Schofield Middle School and all they have accomplished this season.”
Academic team competitions consist of groups of students competing against each other in “quiz bowl” fashion, as a question is read aloud by a moderator and students then “buzz-in” with their answers.
Team Awesome is coached by seventh-grade social studies teacher Aaron Knowles. Student team members include Team Captain Kimberly Niksarian (8th Grade), Ryan Crapse (8th Grade), Daigan Hallman (8th Grade), Lorena Tiller (8th Grade), Emma Baggot (8th Grade), Kaori Ramirez-Goji (8th Grade), and Christopher Ortiz-Miranda (7th Grade).
