    Our 8th Grade Technology Guarantees

    8th grade

By the end of the eighth grade, students will demonstrate mastery of the following 2016 ISTE Standards for Students (Innovative Designer; Creative Communicator; Global Collaborator):

    • Students will use technology and the engineering design process to aid in the creation of solutions to real-word, authentic, and open-ended problems.  This will be measured with a rubric designed to assess students’ ability to apply knowledge from different subject areas to identify, formulate, and solve problems using the engineering design process and evidence collected within their STEAM notebooks which will demonstrate an understanding of the problem and reasonable solutions as how best to solve them.

    • Students will use a variety of digital tools to clearly communicate their ideas, share knowledge, and build on the work of others using the appropriate medium for their audience and goals. This will be measured by a communication rubric developed from the 2016 ISTE Student Standards and the South Carolina 2015 College and Career Readiness English Standards on Communication

    • Students will work in global and local teams to constructively collaborate and broaden their understanding of multiple and diverse perspectives in order to reach a common goal.  This will be measured by teacher observation and peer evaluation through a variety of STEM/STEAM projects throughout the year which will address the strengths that students provided to the common goal of the group.

At the culmination of their eighth grade year, students will select their best artifacts for their Exit Conference in which they'll present their final portfolio to a panel of the stakeholders including, but not limited to the business and community partners, parents, teachers, guidance counselor, assistant principal, and principal. This is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their growth from sixth to eighth grade and display their best work. The final portfolio will be measured using a rubric derived from the Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grade Guarantees (listed above), 2016 ISTE Student Standards, and the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate.
