• How does STEAM transform mindsets?

One of the main characteristics of a STEAM education environment embraces and fosters a growth mindset in both teachers and students. A growth mindset is the belief that intelligence can be developed through perseverance, hard work and the effort in which students put into their work, as opposed to focusing on how smart they are. It creates a safe haven for students to step out of their comfort zone and embraces the notion that failing is NOT failure. This mindset enables individuals to foster a desire for learning and create the resilience & stamina that is needed to achieve great accomplishments. According to the research of Dr. Carol Dweck & Dr. Lisa Blackwell, professors at Stanford University, students who practice this mindset will increase their motivation to learn & excel. These students make better grades and have higher test scores. The only place in which ‘success’ comes before ‘work’ is the dictionary.
