• The goal of the ESOL Program is for all students to attain the necessary academic language proficiency in English to participate fully in all mainstream classes in which the target language is English.  Research indicates that it can take 7 - 10 years to acquire the academic language proficiency skills needed to fully participate in classes in English at the same level as native English speaking peers.

Students’ English development growth is measured annually through the ACCESS (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State) test. The assessments measure students' academic English language in four language domains: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.

Students' ACCESS scores reflect proficiency levels ranging from Level 1 (Entering) to Level 6 (Reaching). Educators use ACCESS results, along with other WIDA resources, to make decisions about students' English academic language and to facilitate their language development.

Please make sure to register your child for next year using the PowerSchool Parent Portal!  Parents and guardians can now register students for the upcoming school year! For students currently enrolled in ACPS, registration is quick and easy. Parents and guardians can register through their PowerSchool Portal Account. If you do not already have a Parent Portal account created, please contact your child home school for assistance. New student registration, including Kindergarten students and students brand new to ACPS, will also be completed online. Click here for more information.

Students will report back to school on August 15th, 2022.
