Mr. Charles Johnson

Hello and thank you for taking the time to visit my classroom site. I'm very excited to help your child learn valuable skills for college and build good character. I am a firm believer that knowledge without an equally developed sense of duty and morality is a bad thing. It is my mission to ensure that your child learns and grows in a safe and challenging environment with their peers.

I appreciate being able to teach English Language Arts because I believe it is the only subject that applies to literally every aspect of life.  Thoughts and words have incredible power. Genesis states that God spoke into existence every aspect of creation. Our founding fathers found just cause for freedom and righteous revolution because they were inspired by words to rebel against tyrants and make a home of liberty and justice for all. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare--arguably the greatest playwrite of all time--has taught generations of teenagers and adults alike about the pleasures and dangers of unbridled passions and unchecked rivalries that one can still see reflected in school hallways and in popular films.  "The Gettysburg Address" by Abraham Lincoln convinced a divided nation that the warfare and sacrifice of those on the battlefield was not in vain and that a new and more equal America would result from their toil. "I have a dream" by Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. inspired us all to strive continuously for a world where one would by judged, not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. These are but a few examples of the types of readings that students will engage with this year.

I look forward to working hand in hand with you to ensure the best for your child. Know that every thing I do, I do with their best interest--and your direction--in mind. I am not here to teach them what to think, but how to think. By the time they leave my class, know that they will move on with a greater sense of experience, understanding, and competency.
