Mrs. Bridget Kearse - School Counselor

Welcome to the 2019-20 school year!  I am excited to start my 9th year as the school counselor of New Ellenton Middle STEAM Magnet School. I have 27 years of experience as an educator, having worked in Orangeburg School District 5 and Barnwell School District 45.  I received a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education and a Master’s of Science in School Counseling from SC State University.

My husband and I are the proud parents of two children.  Our son Evan is studying mechanical engineering and our daughter Sydni is studying Occupational Therapy at Tuskegee University.  In my spare time, I enjoy reading, listening to music, and spending time with my family.  I look forward to working the students, parents, and teachers of NEMS as we nurture the whole child and prepare them to be college and career ready.

Mrs. Amy Mizell Smith

Greetings, New Ellenton family!

As a Career Specialist, I can think of no better school to be a part of!  With careers in the STEAM field being in high demand, I'm looking forward to working with our students to explore future options that will set them on the right path to success.  I've been a Career Specialist in the Ï㽶ӰÊÓ for 15 years and, prior to that, I was in a similar role with adults.  It was in that previous career that my passion for working with young people began.  In those adults, I saw the results of NOT having had the benefit of real exploration and introductions to professional skills development.  Outside of school you will find me camping with my husband and our four doxies, loving on my grandchildren or being involved in the music ministry of our church (one of my greatest passions).

My goals here are simple:

* To expose our students to jobs and careers beyond what they currently are aware of (ie; doctor, lawyer, YouTube star!)

* To help them get to understand themselves and their abilities better through brain games and interest inventories

* To help them start to understand what it REALLY takes to get and KEEP a job - those professional ("soft") skills.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if there is anything I can do for you or your student!
