Yellow Homework Folders
Please look at these daily. Homework, important papers, and notes may be in them. Any items such as notes or money from you need to be in the folder. Please do not put things that need to come to us in your child’s book bag but please put them in the folder. Initial the weekly calendar in the folder and discuss your child’s day/behavior with them. I strongly encourage you to read daily with your child. This is part of your child’s daily homework. Please write the title of the book on the weekly calendar. In the back of the folder will be a list of all the sight words we will learn during the year. I will list the week’s words on the weekly calendar so you can practice them at home with your child. I will check the students on these words regularly. I will be sending home sight word flash cards as your child gradually learns sight words. These will be placed in the 3 ring supply pouch in your child’s folder. Please keep it in your child’s folder because we will add to it as we learn new sight words.
Behavior
Our entire school is participating in Class Dojo. The students will earn points for good behavior and lose points for poor choices. Class Dojo is a digital classroom management tool that allows teachers to quickly communicate with parents about our daily activities within the school day. Parents must create an account with Class Dojo to view their child’s points, behavior, and classroom events. Your child’s behavior, personal notes, and points are private but everyone can view the classroom events. It’s a wonderful communication tool. We will use Dojo to do most of our communication about daily school activities and your child’s behavior.
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES CANNOT BE MADE THROUGH CLASS DOJO. THIS IS A NEW SCHOOLWIDE POLICY. ALL TRANSPORTATION CHANGES MUST BE MADE THROUGH THE FRONT OFFICE OR THROUGH A WRITTEN NOTE IN YOUR CHILD’S YELLOW HOMEWORK FOLDER.
We also do a class compliment chart. When our entire class receives compliments, we work towards earning class parties. IF your child makes poor choices, there will also be a note in your child’s folder and you will receive communication through Class Dojo.
Transportation
If your child is a bus rider, there will be adults who will help them get to and from our classroom. During arrival, car riders will be dropped off in front of the school. Adults will assist your child in getting to the classroom. The crosswalk is NOT allowed to be used in the mornings or after school. For arrival and dismissal, YOU MUST REMAIN IN YOUR CAR. Every car must have a JES car tag clearly displayed with your child’s Driveline number. This tag cannot be handwritten and must be the official tag given to you by the school. Without this official tag, a student cannot be picked through carline. During dismissal, your child will be brought to your vehicle. Safety is our main priority and if you have any transportation questions or concerns, please contact the front office. There will be no sign-outs allowed after 2:00 PM.
Birthdays
We love celebrating birthdays and special events with your child. When it is your child’s birthday, we celebrate them in the classroom. If you would like to bring in items for your child’s birthday, the items must be pre-packaged and cannot be homemade. If you would like to send something in, I highly recommend cookies, candy or mini-cupcakes. Our young students typically do not eat a full-sized cupcake and it can be very wasteful.
Health & Safety
If your child is sick and not feeling well, please keep them at home. If your child has a temperature of 100 degrees or more, they will be sent home. To return to school, your child must be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication (Motrin/Ibuprofen, Tylenol/Acetaminophen). If your child is absent, please send in a note or doctor’s excuse for our attendance clerk. Also, if your child has any medical conditions or allergies, please see our school nurse to fill out the necessary paperwork. All medication needs to go through our school nurse. Medication cannot be sent with a child and paperwork must be filled out for your child to receive medication at school.
Breakfast/Lunch
Breakfast and lunch will be eaten in the cafeteria. If you choose to send lunch for your child, we are not able to heat up your child’s food or use a refrigerator. We will help your child open items, but please try to pack items that are easy for your child to open.
Please feel free to contact me through e-mail (chair@acpsd.net) or phone (593-7180) if you have any questions or concerns.
