Hello!
My name is Carla Bedenbaugh, and I am from Spartanburg, SC, where I graduated from Converse College (now Converse University). At Converse I earned a BA and my M. Ed. in Secondary Education, English.
I have just started my sixth year teaching at Ridge Spring-Monetta Middle School, where I teach English 8. I hope my students learn to enjoy reading and writing. Both skills are so important for success in careers, college, or the military. One feature of my class is allowing students a few minutes of quiet time to read or write for themselves. This type of non-judgement reading and writing will get the students used to performing both activities, and hopefully develop a regular practice of taking the time to read and write daily.
At the beginning of each school year we focus on classroom expectations (such as asking for help by raising a hand, talking only when allowed and not when others are talking, and basic rules of courtesy.)
I plan to spend a lot of time on developing vocabulary skills, reading texts that are culturally important, and learning why this knowledge is important and will help them in the future.
I care deeply about each of my students and make time to interact with each one every day. Reach out if you have any questions!
