• Fun Speech/Language Activities

    Dear Parents,

I will post links to videos and songs that your child may or may not be familiar with here.  Imitating and completing motions in time to music develops skills that are also used for speech and language.  Some songs we sing every week during push-in language lessons.  These music/movement activities give your child practice and exposure to basic concepts, vocabulary, speech sounds, and motor skills.  Please sing and immerse your child in music to encourage them to participate and to help develop their self-esteem, language, and social skills.

Suggestions are always welcome! Please message or email me with your suggestions for what you would like to see or  know more about.

It's A Very Simple Dance To Do

It's A Very Simple Dance To Do

Your child may not be familiar with this song and motions.
So try to sing along as you learn the song and help your child act out the song at home.
Please encourage your child to do the motions with you and imitate the call and response format.

Vowel Sound Song

Vowel Sound Song

This song can be sung while doing the motions that go with the vowel sounds.
Unfortunately this video does not show the motions, but your child may remember and know some of them.
I will work on sending you more information about these specific movements.
Right now, your child can practice imitating the vowel sounds with the song in a call and response format.

Yes/No Song

Yes/No Song

We have practiced answering yes/no questions using this song, which was made by a Speech Pathologist in our district.
If you have a core language board with pic/syms for yes and no, your child can practice telling the answer by pointing to yes/no or by answering verbally.

One Little Finger

One Little Finger

Children can imitate the actions to identify body parts, practice the concepts 'up' and 'down', and practice moving one finger separately from the rest of the hand.
If you have a core board with 'up' and 'down', help your child point to 'up' and 'down' when these words come up in the song.

Over In The Meadow

Over In The Meadow

This is a song version of the story Over in the Meadow.
This version is based on the text and animals used in the book version by Ezra Jack Keats.
This song/story targets number concepts, actions, and who/where questions.

Seasons Song

Seasons Song

This is one of my favorite songs!
The Seasons Song is a Science song that teaches the seasons of the year.

We have not used this song/video yet. Use this activity for fun and to practice your SIM movements. It goes at a nice slow pace so that your child can get ready for each movement.

LETTERCISE by Melanie Hawley

from on .

LETTERCISE by Melanie Hawley The kids are very familiar with this song, but I just recently found this video. Please enjoy doing the Sounds in Motion Movements with your child while using this video. It will help them keep up with phonics skills needed to improve and/or learn how to read. Also, gives them a good break to have fun while learning/practicing at the same time! Enjoy!
