Coach George Pope, III

George Pope, III was born and raised in Aiken County where he attended Silver Bluff High School and played several sports. Coach Pope went on to attend J.C. Smith University as a student athlete who played football. While there, he received Defensive MVP and was recognized as the Bronko Nagurski Scholarship winner two years consecutively, 2004 and 2005, becoming the first student athlete to do so. Coach Pope also graduated Magna Cum Laude and received his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education in 2006. Coach Pope earned his Masters of Education in 2011 from Cambridge College.

After graduating, he began his coaching career at Hopkins Middle School, as the head football coach and assistant basketball coach for the boys’ basketball team. Coach Pope began serving as the Head Football coach and Girls Basketball coach at Schofield Middle School in 2012. That year, the Lady Rams won the Aiken County Championship and ended the season with a record of 13-2. In 2013, Coach Pope continued to serve as the head Football Coach and began to coach the Boys’ basketball team. During his time at Schofield Middle School, he led the basketball team to two Aiken County Championships and two County runner-up positions, with an overall record of 56-3. Additionally, he led the football team to three Aiken County Runner-up positions and had an overall record of 31-7. In 2016-2017 school year, both the Schofield Football team and the Boys’ Basketball teams won the Aiken County Championship with undefeated seasons under his leadership.

Coach Pope has an overall record of 69-5 as a head basketball coach and 31-7 as a head football coach. He is happily married to Courtney Clyburn Pope (over 10 years) and together they have three beautiful children, CJ (13), Lauren (8), and George, IV (4). Coach Pope strongly believes in family, hard work, commitment, and dedication.
