Welcome to 8th Grade Science at Jackson STEM Middle School-home of the Indians.

I am so glad you and your students are here. We have lots of interesting things to cover,
explore and learn together. This year we will be using the McGraw Hill Inspire Science South
Carolina version of volumes 1 and 2. These are consumable books and will stay at school
until needed to assist with a project or study for a test.

These books are also available online by following these steps:
1. Go to the home page of the district’s website
2. Click on the globe
3. Scroll down the lists on the left side and look for Clever
4. Click on Clever and then find the McGraw Hill once there click the icon and district
It should then say the name of the book. Everything online is the same as in the book

My name is Carol Stewart Mills. I am a SC native and a 32-year veteran teacher of
elementary PE in Augusta. I am a wife, mother, grandmother (favorite job) and wear many
other hats. In my free time I love to view wildlife, bird watch, take pictures, travel and enjoy
friends/family.

Things have already gotten underway. The students took their lab safety test Friday so that
they will be able to do our hands-on activities soon.

For class, your students will need loose leaf paper, a binder or folder with prongs to hold the
papers (I do have one available if needed), writing instruments and their fully charged
laptops.

My grading system is the same as the other 8th grade teachers. Assignments that are late
lose 5 points the first day late and then 10 each day after that unless the student is out with
an excused absence. It is the student’s responsibility to ask for missed work and assignments

The 8th grade year of science has some physical science, earth science and biology. We will
have a wonderful time learning.
