Jackson STEM Magnet Middle School supports literacy and has programs in place to support all readers. Throughout the year, students have the opportunity to participate in local, state and national reading initiatives. We are currently using Beanstack, a reading app to track minutes, pages, or books read. Students can select one or more challenges to log their leisure and academic reading in the Beanstack app. Prizes and drawings will be awarded regularly through the school library. Students access Beanstack through Clever. The app can also be installed on personal devices from an app store.
We encourage students to read at home 20 minutes a day by
- reading silently
- reading out loud to a younger or older family member
- listening to free audiobooks through the Aiken County Public Library
- reading e-books available through Destiny (via Clever) or the Aiken County Public Library
- listening to a younger family read out loud
- reading a book together with a family member
