• Contact Information

I encourage you to partner with me in your child's education. Together we can make all the difference! Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have. The best and quickest way to get in touch with me is through our Classroom Dojo App. You can also call the school (803-663-4320) or send me an email at jsarvis@acpsd.net.

    Homework Folders

Each day your child will bring home their homework folder. This folder will include homework for the week, a monthly calendar, and a weekly newsletter. Please feel free to send any notes for me inside their homework folder, as I check it every morning. Folders will not go home on Fridays.

    Monday Folders

Each Monday, a dark blue, school wide, communication folder will come home with your child. Inside this folder you will find your child's graded tests from the previous week as well as any important information from the school. I encourage you to review the tests with your child! Praise them for where they did well and work with them in the areas they struggled. Keep in mind, first grade is not only learning new material but also learning HOW to take tests.

    Weekly Testing

Your child will be assessed on the following at the end of each week:

Spelling words: can be found in your weekly newsletter. Please study these words with your child at home each night.

    Reading,Vocabulary & Comprehension:

    • Reading: Students will be given a cold read test each week that they must read and answer questions about. These tests will be on the expected reading level for first grade at the given time. First graders are expected to begin on a reading level D and end on a level J.
    • Vocabulary: Vocabulary words can also be found in your weekly newsletter. Please practice these at home with your child each night. They will be tested for recognition and understanding of these words, not how to spell them.
    • Comprehension: Students will need to fill in the blank, decide between two words, choosing the one that completes the sentence and makes sense. This will be using their spelling words.

Math: Weekly math tests will be pulled from the daily skills covered in class and on homework. Please use the weekly newsletter as a reference for what we are currently working on each week.

Science/Social Studies: Science and social studies will be taught in alternating units. There will be no homework specifically for these subjects. Grades will be for participation/classwork and occasionally tests in these subjects.
