• Welcome to 4th Grade Letter

    Dear Families and Students,

Welcome to Fourth Grade! I’m excited about the opportunity to build a working relationship with you and your child.  I’m looking forward to guiding your child through many learning experiences this school year.

    Attendance

Students are expected to arrive at school on time. The instructional day begins at 7:00 a.m. Students will be counted tardy if they report to class after 7:30 a.m. Obsessive absences and tardiness can lead to poor grades. In the event that your child is absent, please send in a note or excuse, and remind him/her to ask for their missing assignments.

    Snacks

All food needs to be eaten in the lunchroom. Water is the only drink allowed in the classroom. I recommend sending your child with a water bottle they can fill every day. The only exception for the snack rule will be for birthday treats or classroom celebrations. If you would like to send in a small treat for your child to share with the class for their birthday, please let me know a day or two ahead of time so I can plan time in the schedule.

    Communication

I believe communication between parents/guardians and the teacher is imperative for a successful school year. I will be using ClassDojo to keep you informed and updated with classroom announcements. This is a great tool for us to communicate through private messages. ClassDojo will also enable you to view your child’s positive and negative behavior points. You may sign up through the App Store on your smart device or by visiting the website. If you do not have an account, a code will be sent home to join our class.  Always feel free to call me at school or email me regarding any concerns or questions.

    Laptop and Charger

Students will be issued a school laptop and charger. It is your child’s responsibility to treat and maintain it as school property. Damages will be assessed, documented, and possible charges may be placed on student accounts.

    Homework and At-Home Project Policy

Homework is given Monday through Thursday to ensure that students are familiarizing themselves with the content and it allows the parent/guardian to see what we are studying in class. Students are expected to copy his/her daily homework in the school-provided agenda. Homework will also be posted on ClassDojo. Homework is to be turned in on Friday, unless otherwise specified. As for projects, I always assign adequate time to have them completed. In an effort to prepare students for Fifth Grade and middle school, late work will only be accepted with a point deduction. If the missing work is turned in the following day, there will be a five (5) point deduction.  After that, a ten (10) point deduction will occur. After two weeks, students will not be able to turn in the assignment. They will receive a zero for the assignment. Students who lose copies of assignments will receive a classroom consequence. There are no exceptions to this policy.

    Tests

Tests days for all content areas may vary depending on the progress of the students for that particular unit or skill. However, you and your child will be notified in time to study and prepare. Test dates will be written on the board and posted on ClassDojo

    Signed Papers

Signed papers will go home regularly. An announcement will be posted on my ClassDojo. Please communicate with your child to ensure you receive his/her papers. On the front of the stapled papers, there will be a cover sheet reporting any disciplinary problems that have been reoccurring. There may also be skills to practice, supplies to replenish, and/or personal notes. Parents/Guardians are expected to sign the cover sheet, add notes as necessary, and have the student return the entire packet of papers.

    Behavioral Expectations: Code of Conduct

Parents/Guardians and students are expected to read the Student Code of Conduct. By signing and returning the Parent and Student Acknowledgement, you are stating that you both understand the information stated in the book. The Acknowledgment is expected to return during the first week of school – page 36.

    Behavioral Expectations: Positive Rewards

Students will be rewarded for showing positive behavior in the classroom. Students will be rewarded by getting tickets that they can spend at our 4th grade store.

    Behavioral Expectations: Negative Consequences

Students who do not follow a behavioral expectation, will receive one (1) verbal warning, as a reminder. After that, the following consequences will be given for the proceeding negative behaviors.

    • 1st consequence – verbal warning

    • 2nd consequence – 5 minutes of independent recess

    • 3rd consequence – 15 minutes of independent recess

    • 4th consequence – office referral

A classroom or office referral will be documented for following offenses. A parent/guardian will be contacted.

*Extreme behaviors may result in an immediate referral and contact
