First grade students continue to grow as readers and writers as they focus on purposes for writing and reading strategies.  They learn to tell time, count money, identify place value, and apply addition and subtraction in word problems.  They explore and inquire about the world around them, with a focus on topics like plants and light, the democratic process,  the sun and moon, and natural resources.
