Evaluating and Citing Sources

  • Evaluating Sources

Evaluating sources to be used for research is very important. Any resource you are considering needs to be evaluated on five key points:

    1. Timeliness - Is this source up to date? When was it published?
    2. Relelevance - Does this source answer the question being asked?
    3. Accuracy - Is this source reliable?
    4. Author - Who created the source? Are they knowledgeable?
    5. Purpose - Why was this source created? Do they have a motive other than educating?
