Welcome to 2nd grade! Hello, my name is Iris Trapp and I am so excited about 2023-2024 and cannot wait to be your child's teacher! In our classroom, we want learning to be fun and accommodating to all different learning styles. My classroom is made to feel like a big happy family in which everyone is welcome with open arms and treated with respect. I believe students should feel secure and enthusiastic at school.

The first few weeks of school we will focus on getting to know each other and building a strong classroom community. Some of our main goals in 2nd grade are to strengthen our reading , writing, phonics and math skills. Students will be taught through whole group  instructions, small group instruction , through peers and independently. We incorporate all of our core subjects into many thematic units. At Byrd Elementary, we take pride in incorporating and extending learning through hands-on-projects, enrichment and field trips.

Most importantly, we strive to teach our students to be kind and caring to each other and to everyone. We encourage and practice being supportive of each other academically and socially. We work on communicating our thoughts and feelings and coming together to be the best students and friends that we can be!
