The AHS National Honor Society is open to qualified Junior and Senior students. The four criteria for admission to the National Honor Society are scholarship, leadership, service, and character.  Members who do not maintain these four standards may be dismissed.  In some situations, a limited number of warnings may be appropriate.  However, in cases of serious violations of the Code of Student Conduct, school rules, and/or civil laws, a warning may not be necessary prior to recommending a member for dismissal. 

• Members who are recommended for expulsion from school shall be dismissed from the National Honor Society on the first offense.
• Students who are suspended in-school or out-of-school may be recommended for dismissal from NHS on the first suspension. If a student is allowed to remain in the National Honor Society on probationary status following a suspension of short duration, the student will be recommended for dismissal on any subsequent suspension, in-school or out-of-school.
• Aiken High’s chapter of NHS has a mandatory attendance requirement for monthly meetings (virtual or in-person). The meetings occur the second Monday of each month. Members are allowed one absence from the monthly meeting schedule, with notification to club sponsors.  Chronic failure to meet the attendance requirement may result in students being denied the privilege of receiving a honor cord at graduation.
• Members will pay annual dues of $25, failure to pay dues will result in a student being placed in probationary status and they will be unable to qualify for their graduation honor cord.
• Students will be invited to participate in Aiken High NHS based on final GPA calculated at the end of 10th and 11th grade. Invitations will be distributed in August and an induction ceremony will be held in September.
• Students must maintain the minimum grade point average of 4.25 on the weighted scale. Students who fall below the required minimum GPA will be placed on probation. If the student’s GPA meets or exceeds the minimum GPA by the next grading period, he/she will be removed from academic probation.  Students who fail to improve their GPA while on academic probation may be dismissed from the National Honor Society.
• Cheating or any breach of academic integrity will be sufficient to recommend dismissal from the National Honor Society on the first offense.
• Members are required to participate in two hours of tutoring and two hours of community service per semester from activities established by club leadership. Failure to obtain the service hours will result in the member being excluded from obtaining a honor cord for graduation.
