Ms. Patricia E. Toepke

I am a Mathematics teacher and Teacher Cadet instructor at Aiken High School.  Though born in New Milford, CT, I have lived in Aiken, SC since 1968.  I attended Mead Hall, St. Mary's, and graduated from Saint Angela Academy in 1984 as the salutatorian.  I always wanted to be a teacher, though originally, I wanted to teach elementary school.  I graduated from Winthrop University with a B.S. in Elementary Education (graduating Summa Cum Laude) in 1988 and USC-Columbia with an M.Ed. in Elementary Education in 1989.  I currently hold a Masters + 30 certificate for teaching.

My first teaching assignment was at L.B.C. Middle School where I taught 7th and 8th grade mathematics, science, and geography for 10 years.  In 1999, after having obtained my SC certification in High School Mathematics, I transferred to Aiken High School, where I have taught Math Tech I, Geometry, Algebra II, Probability & Statistics, Calculus Honors, SAT Prep, and am currently teaching Algebra I, Precalculus Honors, and Teacher Cadet.  I have been the Mathematics Department Chairperson for several years and I am currently the sponsor of the Math Team.

I was L.B.C.'s Teacher of the Year in 1991, and I was Aiken High School's Teacher of the Year and named to the District Honor Council in 2007.  I was selected as a WJBF Golden Apple Award Winner during the 2016-2017 school year.  I am a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the South Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and have served as the Vice-President of High Schools, the President-Elect, the President, and I am currently serving as the Treasurer of ACCTM (Aiken County Council of Teachers of Mathematics.)  I was certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards from 2001 to 2021, but chose not to renew my most recent certificate.

This will be my 35th year in the teaching profession, and I cannot have imagined doing anything else!
