Welcome to all my new, emerging artists! We will take on many different artistic endeavors throughout the school year!

Art 1: Drawing and Painting is a beginning level art course that focuses on the basics of how to create successful artwork within the 2D medias of drawing and painting. There will be a thorough exploration into how to create successful compositions using the Elements and Principles of Design. We cover basic terminology, skills, and techniques to improve accuracy and expand the understanding of art by creating, critiquing, and researching artwork. We work with graphite, pen, colored pencils, chalk and oil pastels, mixed media, watercolor, and acrylic. We discuss personal artwork and the artwork of others in the form of written and verbal critiques. Connections will be made with other courses of study, career opportunities, history, and other cultures. The class will mainly consist of hands-on projects along with notes, lectures, homework, classwork, quizzes, and exams. Any level artist can be successful in this class with a positive attitude, ability to listen and follow directions, and willingness to work hard. I look forward to a fun year with my new, eager artists!
