Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives provides opportunities for inquiry into, and reflection on, key global issues from different perspectives: personal, local/national and global. Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives encourages awareness of global problems and offers a range of opportunities to explore solutions through cooperation and collaboration. The course is not about getting everybody to think identically; rather it is a matter of opening minds to the complexity of the world and of human thought, and encouraging empathy for the diversity of human experience and feeling.

    Required Supplies:

    Laptop Computer

    Notebook

    College-lined notebook paper
    Pens/Pencils

    Colored Pencils (not required)

    Notes to Parents:

    1.  All assignments, notes, and test reviews will be sent to each student on their email account.  Please make sure your student keeps up with all reading assignments, as it is essential to making a good grade in this course.

    2.  Grading will occur regularly.  I do accept late work; however, homework and Classwork grades that are turned in late will earn a max grade of a 50. This does not include assignments missed because of absences. Students will be given time to make up missed work for full credit.

The year grade will be calculated as such:

      Tests/Projects 50%, Quizzes 30%, Homework/Classwork 20%

    90 – 100 (A), 80 – 89 (B), 70 – 79 (C), 60 – 69 (D), 0 – 59 (F)

    4.  Academic dishonesty in any form is unacceptable.  This includes, but is not limited to, copying any kind of work from another student or sharing answers with another student, plagiarism, or using any form of aid (a.k.a. cheat sheet) on a test or quiz or copy and paste on a project. It will be very important for students to cite their sources. If, for any reason, a student is perceived as cheating the following actions will be taken:

    • The assignment, quiz or test will be confiscated and will be given a grade of zero.
    • The parents(s)/guardian(s) will be contacted to report the incident.

    5.  Please encourage your student and keep them motivated! This is a transitional year for our 9th graders and can be hard or discouraging. Having their family and guardians checking in on them will help the students stay on track.

    6.  Global Perspectives is about the good, the bad and the ugly.  Be prepared to discuss historical concepts and events at home.  This will add positively to your student’s experience in Global Perspectives and increase their understanding of the relevance of history to current events. Controversial topics will be discussed and I encourage the conversation to continue at home.

I look forward to a great year!
