    Requirements for Earning a South Carolina High School Diploma (Grades 9-12)

    South Carolina Board of Education (SBE) Regulation 43-234 lists course requirements for public high school students to graduate with a South Carolina High School Diploma.

    The student must earn a total of twenty-four (24) units of credit as follows:

    The South Carolina Commission on Higher Education () 
    serves as the coordinating board for South Carolina’s 33 public institutions of higher learning. 

    The Commission's website provides links to lists and explanations of the minimal* graduation requirements for high school students wishing to continue their education at a public four-year college or university in SC after receiving the high school diploma:


    *Some institutions may have more stringent college prep course requirements than those listed here.  It's important for students to check early with colleges of their choice to plan to meet additional high school prerequisites that might be required for admission and to prepare for college entrance examinations.
