USCA  USC Aiken Dual Enrollment Options

Students interested in dual enrollment at USCA must contact Ms. McBride in the AHS Counseling Office in order to start their application process.  Please email: tmcbride@acpsd.net Applications for Fall 2023 open in February 2023. All USCA programs are off AHS campus.

Dual enrollment at UofSC Aiken provides high achieving local public, private or home-schooled high school students with the opportunity to take college courses that will enhance their high school experience while experiencing the challenges of a collegiate classroom setting.

Dual enrollment eases the transition as students leave high school and enter a four-year university setting.  Students are exposed to personalized instruction in traditional UofSC Aiken courses with UofSC Aiken faculty and students.

UofSC Aiken strongly encourages high school students to enroll in Advanced Placement (AP) courses that are available at their high school in addition to dual enrollment courses at USC Aiken.  Combined, high school students will be well prepared for the rigors of a four-year institution.

Early Start is Aiken Technical College’s dual enrollment program. It is designed to allow qualified and highly motivated Aiken County, private or home-schooled high school students the opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school by taking either general studies classes, or enrolling in the Pre-Engineering or General Education Pathway. Students can earn both high school and college credit (dual credit) or just college credit (concurrent).

    • On Campus Dual students will participate in both English and Math courses to be eligible for the program.  The courses taught include the following pairings: Fall Semester: English 101/College Algebra and Spring Semester: English 102/Probability and Statistics
    • Dual Enrollment students can enroll in many general education courses that are required for, and transfer to, many majors at many four-year colleges and universities. In addition, these transferable courses at ATC cost much less than most other colleges and universities in the CSRA. Dual Enrollment students are exposed to a variety of majors within their chosen field, thus giving them a head-start on finding the specialty they wish to pursue in a college major.

Dual enrollment students should have at least the minimum test scores on one or more of the following placement tests:

      • English/Verbal (Minimum): Either PSAT – 500, SAT – 500, or ACT – 18
      • Math (Minimum): Either PSAT – 500 or ACT – 22
      • an overall high school GPA of 3.0 or higher
      • at least a “B” in the highest high school English
      • at least a “B” in Algebra II or Pre-Calculus.
      • Demonstrated aptitude for college coursework beyond these measures.
