Chukker Creek wins 2nd place in Aiken County Battle of the Books 2024

Aiken County Schools is proud of their Battle of the Books program.  The program is headed by our lead librarian, Michelle King, with her committee of librarians from high school down to elementary level.  But, so many of the local school librarians have worked to build in Aiken County. It keeps getting bigger and better every year. It began 7 years ago as the team attempted a multi-school event with 7 schools and now every district middle school (11) and all 21 choose to provide this program for their students.

Nearly 100 students from across the district are competing in the Battle of the Books championship.

“They’ve worked really really hard. I always tell the kids it’s a 10 or 20-minute battle that they’ve worked for, most of them since September, some of them since last May when they started reading those 10 books,” said Melanie Starks, media specialist, East Aiken School of the Arts.

We are so proud of our Chukker Creek students:  Mac Watson, Talon Pye, Carson Cunning, Joel Nicols, Sam Bird, and James Blackwell.
