Mr. George Pope

My name is George Pope, III and I'm ecstatic to serve as assistant principal here at Aiken High School. I am married to my wonderful wife, Courtney Clyburn Pope. We are blessed to have 3 beautiful kids, CJ (18), Lauren (13), and George IV( 9). I am a proud product of Ï㽶ӰÊÓ. In my childhood years, I attended school at North Augusta Elementary, Aiken Elementary, and Greendale Elementary. After that, I attended New Ellenton Middle and Silver Bluff High School.  After graduation, I attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C , where I continued my education while playing football for the Golden Bulls. While in college playing football, I went on to receive several awards, most notably the Bronko Nagarski Award Winner (2x) and the team's Most Valuable Player in 2006. After graduating with my bachelor's degree in Physical Education, I immediately moved back to South Carolina and began my teaching career at Hopkins Middle School, teaching physical education and health. During my time at Hopkins Middle School I was fortunate enough to coach several district championship teams as the head football coach as well as being nominated for Richland School District One Coach of the Year nominee, along with being featured in the State Newspaper. After leaving Richland School District One, I moved to Barnwell County School District 19 and taught there for two years before moving back to Aiken County Public Schools. During that time I got my Masters in Educational Leadership from Cambridge College. In Aiken County Public Schools,  I served at three schools :beginning at Schofield Middle, North Aiken Elementary School as a PE teacher. During that time, I also coached at Silver Bluff High School, and Midland Valley High, until now in my current position as Assistant Principal here at Aiken High School. I believe it is my job as one of the building leaders to help cultivate young learners to be their best and push them toward graduating and becoming productive citizens in society. I will do this by providing a consistent presence and helping to promote a culture here established at Aiken High where all students feel safe, valued, and have all tools necessary to help them be successful. This job provides me with an opportunity to serve as a mentor, role model, who students can look up to too. For that reason, I am truly blessed and love my job. I can be reached here at the school via telephone or you can email me at georgepope@acpsd.net

I look forward to a fabulous year. Thanks and as always, GO HORNETS!
