Former Gamecock Football Players Bring Their Children's Books to Redcliffe Elementary School

BEECH ISLAND — “Who reads more books than you?”

“Nobody!”

“Who reads more books than you?”

“Nobody!”

The gymnasium at Redcliffe Elementary School was filled with the sounds of children declaring their dedication to reading in the form of athletic chants on Monday morning when Langston Moore and Preston Thorne — two former football players from the University of South Carolina — came to the school to promote their children’s book, “#JustAChicken.”

Moore and Thorne read from their book, which brings Southeastern Conference mascots to life through vibrant illustrations. The authors gave away signed copies to students, and talked about how to pick out books that you’re interested in.

“The kids are enjoying it,” Redcliffe Elementary Principal Kimmerie Allen said. “They’re reading the book, they’re animated, [they’re giving] them some reading skills to walk away with, but they’re having fun while doing it … they’re just having a fabulous time.”
