Ai FAQs

  • Please see below for a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) regarding AIKEN iNNOVATE.

Q: If I submit the Aiken iNNOVATE application, do I have to complete the school registration process at their home school? Yes. Only 香蕉影视 (ACPSD) students can participate in Aiken iNNOVATE. All students selected to participate in Ai must also complete the school registration process to be an ACPSD student. We will not be able to finalize the enrollment process for Aiken iNNOVATE if you have not completed the school registration process for your child.  Failure to register may result in a loss of your seat in the Aiken iNNOVATE program.

Q: When will I receive confirmation that my child is accepted into Aiken iNNOVATE? If you have applied Aiken iNNOVATE, you will receive an email after the application period with next steps.  Final eligibility will be determined at the end of the school year in May.

Q: Will instruction offered through Aiken iNNOVATE be directly aligned with the same curriculum that is being taught in the classroom setting? The curriculum for our middle school courses will be 100% aligned to ACPSD curriculum. High school courses offered through Aiken iNNOVATE will be VirtualSC courses facilitated by ACPSD teachers. These high school courses will align to the VirtualSC pacing and sequencing, which may not directly align with the ACPSD curriculum maps but will cover the same standards and instructional material over the course of a school year.

Q: Will the students in Ai follow the normal school hours for their virtual instruction? Live virtual sessions will occur during the normal school day but will not include students logged into a computer for the entire day. Daily schedules will include 2-7 live sessions depending on the age group.

Q: Will students be provided with devices for virtual learning? Yes, all ACPSD students are assigned a district Windows laptop PC.  Students who participate in the Aiken iNNOVATE program are required to accept the district device for use in their academic studies and must use it to attend live sessions.

Q: Will students who sign up for AIKEN iNNOVATE have to remain in virtual learning for the entire school year? We are looking for a yearlong commitment for any student who remains in Aiken iNNOVATE after the 5th day of the Fall semester.

Q: Will my child be able to participate in activities provided by the school, such as sports and Band? Yes. Students participating in the full-time virtual option through Aiken iNNOVATE will have the option to participate in extracurricular activities at their home-based school. During the application process, please be sure to let your counselor know if you are interested.

Q: What is the teacher/student ratio for a virtual class? Will they have the same virtual teacher for the entire semester? Class sizes will follow state and district policies. Middle and high school teacher ratio will be limited to approximately 150:1. Unless there are unforeseen circumstances, students will have the same teacher for the entire semester.

Q: Can my high school student work a job while attending school in Aiken iNNOVATE?  Students are required to attend live sessions and complete school work.  Students have some flexibility in when they can complete school work, which may enable some students to work a part-time job.  Like with any high school student who is working a part-time job, parents and learning coaches are encouraged to monitor student progress to ensure the student can manage the dual responsibility of completing school while working.  Students should not plan to be on the clock during times that they are expected to be attending live sessions.  Students will not be excused from school to be at work.
