Principal of Oakwood-Windsor Elementary School Named

After leaving Oakwood Windsor in 2012 to pursue instructional coaching and, later, administration, Davina Truitt will return to the elementary school for the 2019-20 school year in a new capacity-Principal.

Truitt currently serves as the Assistant Principal at Cyril B. Busbee Elementary School in Wagener, an environment that has afforded the growing school leader a wide-range of opportunities for professional learning.

Serving students in communities across the district from Mossy Creek Elementary in North Augusta and East Aiken School of the Arts in Aiken, to more rural area schools such as Oakwood Windsor in Windsor and Busbee Elementary in Wagener, Truitt has demonstrated a commitment to helping students develop the skills necessary to become proficient in their schoolwork and lives.

“I grew up in the rural, small town of Wagener,” she explained. “I actually became an educator with the intent to come back to Aiken County after graduation so that I could positively impact students and families from communities like mine.”

Truitt graduated in 2006 from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She completed a Master’s Program in Educational Leadership at Augusta State University in 2012.

Her leadership at Oakwood Windsor will follow that of long-time educator Lynne Shrader, who will retire in July after having served public schools for forty-one years.

“Mrs. Shrader has done so much to advance the supportive atmosphere over the last two years as Principal at Oakwood Windsor,” Julie Revelle, Executive Director of Elementary Schools commented.  “We wish her all the best in her retirement and are looking forward to Mrs. Truitt engaging the school community as the school makes its mark as a premier elementary school in our district.”

“As a former Oakwood-Windsor teacher, the opportunity to once again serve this community was very appealing,” she said. “The students and families of Oakwood-Windsor have always had a piece of my heart and I’m greatly looking forward to getting started.”
