• The Safe Access to Vital Epinephrine (S.A.V.E. Act), approved by the South Carolina legislature, allows schools to stock epinephrine auto-injectors for designated school staff to use in emergencies for students experiencing severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis). Stock epinephrine is intended for students who experience a first-time allergic reaction while at school.

Parents and guardians of students with known allergies should continue to provide Epi-Pens for their children. These students will continue to have an Individualized Healthcare Plan and Emergency Action plan developed by the school nurse.

Every Aiken County Public School has a registered nurse and at least two additional designated staff members trained to give emergency epinephrine.
