Mrs. April Koonce

Being a teacher has been a dream of mine since I was in the 7th grade. I had the most incredible teacher, Mrs. Raftery, and I wanted to be just like her.  I pursued my dreams and was thrilled when I was offered my first job teaching at Saluda High. Those first few weeks in the classroom were very daunting, but I loved every minute and haven't once regretted following my dreams. I have over 26 years of classroom experience with students of varying abilities in middle and high school settings. My certifications include National Board Certification in Adolescence and Young Adulthood/English Language Arts, Gifted and Talented Certification, and AP Literature and Language Certification. In addition to my success in the classroom, I have worked diligently to impact curriculum by serving as a Curriculum Writer for Lex District 5 and Aiken County and participating in the Midlands Writing Project. As a professional development facilitator, I have presented on topics including Data Teams, High Schools That Work, English II Cohorts, and reading and literacy in the content areas. I hold an undergraduate degree from Landery University (Go Bearcats!) and a Master's in Education from Southern Wesleyan. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and reading. I also love to travel.
