Mr. James (Rick) Gill

I am proudly beginning my 31st year at North Augusta High School.  As far as Aiken County teaching, I taught one year at Midland Valley (1992-1993) before joining the Jacket staff. Prior to my employment with Aiken County, I taught multiple Social Studies courses at O. Perry Walker H.S. in Orleans Parish, New Orleans from 1988 to 1992.  It you want to go way back in history, I taught survey courses in U.S. History and World History at Mississippi State University from 1976 to 1978 while in graduate school (after earning my B.A. degree in History from Mississippi State in December 1975).   I did my student teaching at Starkville Middle School, Starkville, Mississippi, in 1975.   For the 2023-2024 school year, I will be teaching A.P. U.S. History (3 sections), Honors American Government (5 sections) and CP American Government (1 section). On a personal note, I discovered late in life the joys of learning new languages.  From high school and college, I had a rudimentary background in Spanish, but not a fluency. Several years ago, I read an interesting article on the Internet about learning a language after age 60 to help maintain my mental acuity. The result:  I now read and speak basic Greek, and I'm progressing well with basic Russian. Best example I can give of "some old dogs can learn new tricks."  It's never too old to learn.  With any luck, I'll be leading a student/parent group to Portugal and Spain in June 2024. It should be a very full, and very interesting year.

My planning block is 2nd for both halves of the year.

My APUSH classes are  4th block fall semester, and 1st and 4th blocks spring semester.

My American Government Honors classes are 1st and 3rd blocks, with 1st block fall only.  My CP Government class will be 1st grading session in the 3rd block, fall only.
