FIRST IN FLIGHT

We reached a milestone in the NAHS Aviation Program as we watched our first NAHS student flying solo at Augusta Aviation, Inc, Jailyn Leyda.  A 17-year-old gaining the skills and confidence to fly a plane by herself is an amazing accomplishment.  In the early days of aviation, the student sat in the front seat of the plane, the instructor in the back.  There were no radios, so the instructor would pull on the shirt-tail of the student and yell instructions.  The cutting off the shirt tail tradition began as a symbol that the student is ready to fly without the instructor pulling on the shirt tail and the tradition continues today. We are so proud of Jailyn and Coach Spears for this remarkable accomplishment.
