Coach John Kucela-Track Consultant
 

Coach John Kucela begins his 5th year at North Augusta High School. Coach Kucela came to North Augusta High School from Pigeon Forge High School in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Coach Kucela taught special education and was also the varsity boys’ basketball coach at Pigeon Forge High School. Prior to Pigeon Forge High School, Coach Kucela retired from the Georgia Teacher Retirement System with over thirty years of service as an educator. Coach Kucela taught and coached basketball in Columbia, Richmond, Wilkes, and Jefferson County in Georgia.   

While spending over thirty years in the educational field, Coach Kucela has been a college athletic director, high school assistant principal; health/physical education teacher, special education teacher and coach. Coach Kucela has coached basketball for over 30 years and has won over 400 games as a head varsity basketball coach.  

Coach Kucela was Athletic Director and Health/Physical Education Director at Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, Georgia. Coach Kucela’s first coaching positions started at Georgia Military College and the University of South Carolina at Aiken where he was Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach from 1978 to 1983.  He was also able to work on the original staff of the BC/All-Stars Basketball camps while at Georgia Military College. 

Kucela is a graduate of Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Georgia, with an Associate degree in General Studies, and received the Bachelor of Science degree in Health/Physical Education from the University of South Carolina at Aiken.  He later received the Master’s and Specialist degrees in both Health/Physical Education and Administration/Supervision from Augusta College (now - GRU) in Augusta, Georgia. Coach Kucela finished his doctorial course work in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.  

A 1973 Glenn Hills High School graduate, Coach Kucela is married to the former Cindy Bass (Butler High School Class of 1979), also of Augusta. Cindy is a 1984 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. Coach Kucela and his wife are the proud parents of their sixteen year old daughter, Kayla Nicole. Kayla is a eleventh grade honor student at Westminster School in Augusta and is active in basketball, tennis, and singing. 

Coach Kucela has always been proud to be an educator and has truly enjoyed his years in education. Coach Kucela is honored to be part of the North Augusta High School family. Coach Kucela also believes when educators do their jobs, our students have no limits to their potential.
